Thoughts on new website
March 14, 2023I love writing code. Most of the software I write is heavy in JavaScript. That said, I didn’t want to fiddle around too much for my personal blog. My criteria were the following:
Data ownership: I don’t want my content owned or controlled by a third party. There are truly some great services: Ghost CMS, Substack, etc.. This is a self hosted Rails build which works well for this scenario. I am in control of the data and I made a nice clean writing interface via a dashboard.
Simple design: There are so many people who are extremely creative and put endless hours into their personal sandboxes vis a vis design and that is great for them. I own a business, am married, and have a kid so I don’t have that kind of time to allocate to design. I am more interested in writing/sharing at this point. I want the design to be straight forward, simple, and easy to read.
Community: I am hoping to share more and more about what I am reading and at some point having a little readers community in the comments would be delightful. That is my goal and so I may build some comment functionality in the future. While there isn’t a lot here in the present, I do hope that you are able to come back soon and enjoy the reading.
Cheers!
